Champion for Attainment Spotlight: Aspire Appalachian at App State

Appalachian State University continues to show intentional growth and student-focused innovation, welcoming a record 21,798 students in fall 2025, including the largest transfer student population in its history. With 5,351 undergraduates — 27% of the student body — entering as transfer students, App State is strengthening its reputation as one of the most transfer-friendly universities in the nation.
At the heart of this success is Aspire Appalachian, a program that streamlines pathways from community colleges to App State. Through 33 new and renewed agreements with North Carolina community colleges, Aspire provides a clear, cost-effective route for students to complete their bachelor’s degrees while reducing barriers and student debt.
The results speak volumes:
- 70% of transfer students come from community colleges.
- Degree completion rates for NC community college transfers at App State are 22% above the national average.
- App State has earned a place on Phi Theta Kappa’s Transfer Honor Roll for nine consecutive years.
Aspire Appalachian exemplifies App State’s commitment to expanding educational access and supporting degree completion. By building strong community college partnerships and investing in innovative transfer pathways, App State ensures that more North Carolinians can achieve their educational and career goals.
This transformative work has rightfully earned Aspire Appalachian recognition as a myFutureNC Champion for Attainment.
