Sen. Lee is the father of four children, one dog and has been a resident of the Cape Fear Region for over 22 years. Senator Lee is a graduate of UNC-CH and obtained his law degree, with honors, from Wake Forest University.

Sen. Lee serves on the Board of Directors for The Hunt Institute and is a Hunt Kean Fellows member. In his law practice, Sen. Lee has received numerous superlatives through the years such as being included in The Best Lawyers of America directory, Business North Carolina Magazine’s Legal Elite, and Law & Politics Magazine Super Lawyer designation.

Finally, Sen. Lee has served as a North Carolina State Senator from 2014-18 and was re-elected in 2020 and is currently serving his fourth term.  Prior to his service in the NC Senate, Michael served on the NCDOT Board of Transportation and Chaired the NC Port Authority.
