Initiatives & Programs

1:1 Initiative Partnership

Perquimans County Schools implemented a 1:1 initiative for students in grades 3-12 to close the digital divide and prepare students to be competitive in the global economy. All students received a Chromebook the summer of 2020 prior to the 2020-2021 school year, and all families with Internet connectivity issues received a hotspot.

21st Century Scholars

Stanly Community College’s 21st Century Scholars Program offers middle school students scholarships to Stanly Community College upon successful completion of the program and graduation from high school. The chosen students agree to remain in high school, meet attendance and grade requirements, stay off drugs and alcohol, and graduate from high school. The Stanly County School system provides support and assists with skills development through instruction and an advisory system. Stanly Community College assists student completion of financial aid forms and maintains close contact with each student through a series of activities that might include campus visits, summer programs, and career counseling.

6-14 Workforce Pipeline

Person County’s 6-14 Workforce Pipeline partners key stakeholders in an innovative program to enhance and align student skills with local needs, move the needle on student success, and propel Person County business and industry to a future of leading productivity in sectors such as advanced manufacturing, technology, entrepreneurship, and agriculture.

Accelerate

Accelerate student components include: Career Accelerator, which provides high school students with immersive experiences with local companies; Career Exploration, which provides middle school students with short-burst immersive experiences with companies to explore career opportunities; and Career Conversations, which connects employers and students digitally through an online library of video interviews with professionals from a variety of jobs. Components for teachers include: SummerSTEM, which enriches educators’ understanding of the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in the workplace using Project-Based Learning (PBL) with an emphasis on STEM businesses and careers; and Connecting Industry to Math Instruction (CIMI), which is a partnership between Wake Technical Community College, Wake County Public Schools, and WakeEd Partnership that connects math instruction with real-world industry practices.

Accelerate Cleveland

The purpose of Accelerate Cleveland is to provide motivated, underemployed individuals with a pathway to a career in the manufacturing industry. This seven-week, earn-as-you-train workforce readiness program is a public-private partnership between Cleveland County and major manufacturers in Cleveland County. Accelerate Cleveland is funded by manufacturing partners, foundations, and agencies, with support from the County. Upon completion of the program, participants are not guaranteed a job, but they are given an opportunity to interview with each of the industry partners. Partnering companies are committed to interviewing program graduates.
